GNOSS is a technological company headquartered in Logrono (La Rioja) dedicated to the construction and exploitation of knowledge graphs since over 15 years ago; a way of integrating and representing information that allows to discover and investigate any topic in a deeper and more intuitive way as well as to enjoy a more semantically aware web. To this end, GNOSS has developed GNOSS Semantic AI Platform, its own social and semantic software platform for the development of Semantic AI solutions that allows building and exploiting multiligual knowledge graphs. Its main elements are: GNOSS Knowledge Graph Builder, GNOSS Semantic Application Server and GNOSS Sherlock NLU-NERD. Last September, we launched the 5th version of our platform that, for the first time has an Open-Source version to facilitate the use of our technology by any integrator. Emblematic projects such as the Prado Museum (Webby Award 2016 in the Cultural Institutions category), the Spanish National Heritage website, the Spanish Universities Research Management and Publication System (Hercules project, promoted by CRUE-TIC), are proof of our trajectory.

In our presentation we will show how in GNOSS we build “cognitive artefacts” so that machines can converse with us in a commonsense framework. These kinds of artefacts are in practice knowledge graphs, a kind of machine-computable mathematical structure that is at the heart of the Semantic Artificial Intelligence Program. For this purpose, we have developed a specific Ontological Engineering model for machines, which is the condition for building artificial intelligence, but at the same time, interrogable by humans, which is a new approach that makes knowledge graphs computable in “Google time”. We call this engineering model Cognitive Ontological Engineering. Its distinguishing feature is that it incorporates the dimension of interaction between people and machines into the ontological design.

In each project, we consolidate heterogeneous and distributed information from our client’s internal and external sources (if required) into a knowledge graph, a unique interrogation point that makes it possible to interact with people within a commonsense framework in an easy, agile, and simple way. From there, different exploitations can be built (meta-search engines, faceted search tools, augmented reading, etc.) depending on the needs of each individual client. We will show successful cases in functioning in the industrial sector and the benefits of applying this technology in different organizations.

Ricardo Alonso Maturana (Bilbao, 1962) is a Philosophy graduate from the University of Deusto and PhD in Sociology by UNED, is the founder and CEO of GNOSS, a technological company dedicated to the construction and exploitation of knowledge graphs, which he founded in 2002 with the conviction of contributing to the technological development and digital transformation of society is possible from anywhere in the world; also, from Spain.

Ricardo A. Maturana, has been responsible for the direction, design, and conceptualisation of the GNOSS project, its main successful cases, and its services. He is also the promoter of Didactalia, a web of linked educational data with more than 100,000 useful resources that, through GNOSS cognitive technologies, offers intelligent educational services to improve teaching and learning processes.

Maturana conceptualized, imagined, and managed the most important projects of digital transformation of organizations, carried out by GNOSS in recent years for clients such as: the Prado National Museum, National Heritage, National Library of Spain, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations, BBVA, Santillana Group, University of Deusto, Government of the Basque Country, Government of Aragon or Government of La Rioja among others.
